John Gibson: Looks like another Gail warning ..

John Gibson with the Scottish Cup in 1998

Don’t tell us. It’s those damned demons. Back again, tormenting Gail Porter, who’s been regaling a national paper with the oft-told yarn about the diagnosed bipolar disorder she endured as a teenager in Edinburgh.

Peering out, characteristically wide-eyed, from a two-page spread and this had to be a new take on her to merit the splash because it had seemed like only yesterday Gail and her demons had earned similar projection.

Now she’s bound for South Africa to be treated for ‘‘alcohol addiction and depression’.’

My advice to her – and I’m not a doctor, possibly a depressive, though, after being subjected to so much about Ms Porter – is be sure to take the long way round the Cape. Consider a permanent Ascension stopover.

Up for the Cup

Another happy snap from the Gibpress File, an occasional series. As close as I’ll ever get to the Scottish Cup, pictured in 1998, when Hearts won it, cheered on by Verandah owner Wali Uddin, above with his daughter.

Rolling along

Suits you, sir. Slaters, the George Street outfitter and their low-profile manager Peter Chesney, have sponsored Derek Douglas, star, writer and producer of And They Played Shangalang at the Stand Comedy Club.

The sponsorship comprised a three-piece suit and a surprise appearance by a former original Bay City Roller in the well-preserved Alan Longmuir. Shangalang, as the world is well aware,  was a univeral hit for the Rollers.
