Woman is charged over bogus calls

A WOMAN has been charged in connection with string of bogus caller offences against an 89-year-old man who had a four-figure sum extorted from him.

The 22-year-old woman is set to appear in court at a later date. Between August 2011 and February this year, the elderly man was visited four times at his home in
Meadowfield Drive, Duddingston, and extorted of cash
after being told he owed money.

Detective Chief Inspector Sara Buchanan, who leads Operation Aristotle, an ongoing campaign to tackle bogus caller crime in Edinburgh, said: “Over six months, the elderly victim was extorted of his money, which he was led to believe he owed.

“Officers believed each of these incidents were linked and carried out a robust investigation to identify the individual responsible.

“Lothian and Borders Police are committed to bringing those responsible for bogus caller crimes to justice.”
