Woman hospitalised after tenement bedroom fire

A WOMAN was taken to hospital after a blaze broke out in the bedroom of a flat.

The 23-year-old suffered smoke inhalation and was given oxygen at the scene before being taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary by ambulance.

The fire took place in a first-floor flat of a tenement block in Heriot Place at around 12.30am yesterday.

Around 20 residents left their flats after the blaze broke out, although no-one had to be rescued.

The cause of the fire has not been established.

Meanwhile, emergency services were called following a motorcycle accident on the A702 near Silverburn at around noon yesterday.

Two people, one of whom was a man, were taken to the ERI following the accident near Penicuik.
