Two charged with assault

TWO men have been arrested and charged in connection with an assault and attempted robbery which saw the victim punched in the head and body.

Passers-by called police after witnessing an incident in East Hermitage Place in Leith on Thursday, where a man was attacked while preventing his rucksack from being stolen.

The victim made off from the area with all of his possessions prior to the police’s arrival, but two men, aged 30 and 28, were apprehended by officers.

Both men are set to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday.

Officers are still carrying out inquiries to trace the alleged victim and he is asked to contact police. A spokesman said: “Anyone with any information can contact police on 0131-311 3131, or Crimestoppers on 0800-555 111.”
