Teenagers are good sports while training

TEENAGERS at risk of long-term unemployment are to be offered sports management experience as part of a new leadership programme.

Positive Destinations is the first of a raft of new initiatives launched by Edinburgh Leisure aimed at increasing career chances for unemployed young people not in education or training, and those who are disabled or in care. After completing a six-week coaching course, 18 S4 pupils will be given a placement at one of Edinburgh Leisure’s venues, where they will work in all aspects of sports management.

The youngsters’ progress will also be monitored and they will be given guidance on pursuing a career in sport and leisure after their Standard Grades.

Project co-ordinator Jack Martin said: “Hopefully this will have a considerable impact on their future careers and – maybe one day – lead to full-time employment in Edinburgh Leisure.”
