TWELVE movies over four days - that’s the plan for this year’s Under The Stars season, which kicks off tonight with a screening of Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade on the big screen in St Andrew Square.

The annual event, hosted by Essential Edinburgh and the Edinburgh International Film Festival, is set to whet appetites ahead of the 66th EIFF by offering the opportunity to experience classic celluloid gems on a giant screen. The season begins this evening with two screenings; Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade at 6.10pm, followed by Donnie Darko at 8.50pm.

Tomorrow’s programme opens with The Ladykillers (noon), Matilda (1.55pm), Toy Story 3 (4pm), Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade (6.15pm) and Back To The Future (8.50pm). On Saturday the action starts with Matilda (11am), followed by Breakfast At Tiffany’s (1pm), The Ladykillers (3.15pm), Monterey Pop (5.05pm), Scott Pilgrim Vs The World (6.45pm), and Dirty Dancing (9pm).

Finally on Sunday Toy Story 3 sets the ball rolling at noon, with Breakfast At Tiffany’s (2.10pm), Back to The Future (4.30pm), The Pink Panther (6.50pm) following, and Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (9.10pm), bringing the curtain down on proceedings for another year.

So, dig out the picnic rug, check the weather forecast and head to St Andrew Square for some al fresco entertainement. Just make sure you get there in plently of time as it’s first come, first served.
