ScotRail apprentices make tracks for appearance on TV

Scotrail apprentices will tonight appear in a television programme they helped to create during a live TV broadcast from the Capital.

Following an approach from the BBC, the train operator released some apprentices to learn the basics of making television programmes and their efforts are due to be screenRD on BBC3’s Free Speech
debate programme covering the theme “Is Higher Education Worth it?”

In the film, apprentices debate the pros and cons of learning within the workplace – as they are doing – or within a university or further education environment. Another film will portray a day in the life of Fraser Wilkinson from Falkirk, one of the first apprentices to secure a permanent job with ScotRail.

Sharon Hepburn, producer at BBC Learning, said: “The aim of the project was to give young people an understanding of how television is produced. There were workshops in setting up a camera, shot sizes, continuity and filming an interview, as well as the opportunity to shape the films and see a professional television crew in action.”
