Scotland open to refugees
ASYLUM seekers are more likely to be allowed to stay in Scotland than other parts of the UK.
Newly-released figures show that in 2011-12, 45 per cent of those who applied for asylum in Scotland were granted leave to stay, compared with 34 per cent in the UK as a whole.
Gary Christie, of the Scottish Refugee Council, said: “We are pleased to see that the UK Border Agency in Scotland is increasingly recognising people’s right to be protected from persecution.”
