Scientist Hutton reborn at Highland Show
AN 18th-century Scots scientist who influenced Charles Darwin will be brought back to life at the Royal Highland Show.
An actor playing Edinburgh-born geologist James Hutton in the touring show, which opens at Ingliston on Thursday, will urge people to visit the James Hutton Institute stand to find out about research on crops and biodiversity. They can also taste raspberries, blackcurrants and blackberries created in Scotland by James Hutton Institute crop geneticists.
The stand will showcase the work of the 600 staff at Aberdeen and Dundee and its research stations and farms.
James Hutton Institute chief executive Professor Iain Gordon said: “We have inherited from our predecessor institutes a long and happy relationship with the Royal Highland Show.”
