School ties attract former pupils to care home event

FORMER pupils and teachers at St Margaret’s Independent Girls School have been invited to return to the building as it prepares to reopen as a care home.

The school ran in Newington for a century before it closed in 1990 and has now been taken over by Four Seasons Health Care, which will open a new care home on the site in January specialising in general nursing and dementia care.

Bosses are planning an open day to mark the event, and have asked those in the community with ties to the former school to get in touch.

Jean Akel, regional manager at Four Seasons Health Care, said: “St Margaret’s is a beautiful home with a warm and inviting atmosphere and I’m looking forward to its official opening early next year. The home has great attention to detail and will provide a welcoming environment where residents can feel at home in comfortable surroundings.

“We’d be delighted to have some of the school’s past pupils and teaching staff joining us on the open day, so please do get in touch with us to take part.”

The Victorian building has already been converted, extended and fully-refurbished and is awaiting Care Inspectorate registration. Facilities include a hairdressing salon for residents, while the home will also offer short-term respite care.

If you are a former school staff member or pupil and would like to take part in the January open day, contact Ms Akel on 07972106608.
