Russell faces union rebuke

UNION members at Edinburgh College have passed a motion of no confidence in Education Secretary Mike Russell over further education.

The Educational Institute of Scotland (EIS) said it had a number of issues with him.

The motion stated: “This branch wishes to express its loss of confidence in the current Education Secretary.”

Mike Cowley, branch convener of the EIS at the college, said: “Further education members have seen incomes stagnate and, taking into account inflation, actually go into sharp decline. Students have witnessed a calamitous erosion of places and resources, particularly for women and students with learning difficulties.”
