Runners make light work of Arthur’s Seat

THOUSANDS of people are to create music using altitude and movement during a special Festival performance on Arthur’s Seat.

Runners who have signed up from around the world will wear specially designed light suits and carry light sticks, dynamically illuminating the hillside, while Resonance Radio Orchestra, a group devoted to the live performance of radiophonic art, has been commissioned to create the soundtrack.

Each of the walker’s light sticks contains a micro-
computer, with movement and altitude triggering music, causing the pitch and volume to alter. As the walkers ascend Arthur’s Seat they create a layered and ever-changing musical effect.

Angelika Kroeger, who is taking part in the event, said: “It is like watching the sea, where you can’t take your eyes off it, because it is constantly changing.”
