Runner nets £21k for fund

A RUNNER who completed the Edinburgh Marathon in memory of his mother has raised £21,000 for Cancer Research UK.

Mark Smith, 38, from Bilston in Midlothian, lost his mother, Ray Smith, 64, to bowel cancer just weeks before the race.

Cancer Research UK spokeswoman Linda Summerhayes said: “I’d like to say a huge thank you to Mark for raising such a tremendous amount of money, which will go towards funding life-saving research.”
