Reminder for police specials

MEMBERS of the public keen to become special constables with Lothian and Borders Police have only two weeks left to apply to take part in the force’s training course.

Police chiefs have issued a reminder that the deadline for applications is October 31, with the eight-week course getting under way in April.

Special constables will undertake training three days a week to ready them for work. Specials are trained in arrest techniques, taking witness statements, dealing with conflicts and handling traffic.

Between April and June, the 158 special constables with the force completed 4708 hours on duty.

They are regularly assigned to community beat patrols.
