Reading challenge urges kids to turn over new leaf
CHILDREN across West Lothian are being urged to take part in the 2012 Summer Reading Challenge.
All libraries in the area are participating in the challenge, with this year’s theme being Story Lab. As youngsters read books over the summer, they will collect stickers.
Young readers at Carmondean Connected took part in a Big Bang day as part of Story Lab, with senior library assistant Pat Fisher taking on the role of the Mad Professor.
Each library in West Lothian will hold an awards ceremony, which will see every child who completes the challenge by reading six books receive a certificate and medal.
The national Summer Reading Challenge, co-ordinated by The Reading Agency, is run in 97 per cent of the UK’s public libraries. With 780,000 children aged between four and 11 taking part, the Summer Reading Challenge is the biggest national reading initiative in the country
