Racist attack victim left with serious face injury

A 50-YEAR-OLD man has suffered a serious face injury during a racist attack in a city centre street.

A MAN was repeatedly struck over the head with a bottle in a racist attack in Edinburgh.

The 50-year-old was walking home when he was attacked in Dumbiedykes Road, just after midnight yesterday.

The victim then fell to the ground and the male suspect, who was about 5ft 5ins, made off from the area.

DC Fiona McEwan said: “This appears to be a random and entirely unprovoked assault and we are currently treating the attack as racially motivated.

“The victim is in hospital receiving treatment for his injuries, and we are appealing for anyone who was in the area around midnight this morning and remembers seeing

anything suspicious to come forward.

“In particular, we would like to trace the man who came to his aid following the assault.”
