WHEN Ronnie Lane died in 1997, his small but dedicated troupe of followers might have wondered if they’d ever get the chance to hear his songs live again.

Come tomorrow, however, they’ll have that opportunity when the song-writer’s former bandmates play at The Caves in Edinburgh.

After playing an integral part in both The Small Faces and The Faces, Lane went on to record critically-acclaimed albums with an array of talented musicians including Slim Chance, combining rock, folk and country with a theatricality that saw him tour in a carnival tent, which he called his ‘passing show’.

Following his death, the outfit disbanded until former members Steve Simpson, Charlie Hart, Steve Bingham, Alun Davies and Colin Davey, joined by special guests Geraint Watkins and Nick Pentelow, reunited to celebrate their former group leader with a sympathetic tribute to his spirit and songs.
