Police treat house blaze as suspicious

A fire which broke out at an empty house in the early hours of this morning is being treated as suspicious by police.

Emergency crews were called to the property in Herdmanflatt in Haddington, East Lothian at around 3.25am.

Officers said it was fortunate no one was in the house at the time and that a joint police and fire service investigation into what caused the blaze is now under way.

A spokesman for Lothian and Borders Police said: “Fortunately the house was empty when the fire started, as it seems the flames took hold quickly and there could have been a far more devastating outcome.

This fire is being treated as suspicious.”

Anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious last night are urged to call police on 0131 311 3131.
