Police death probe after body found in street with head injuries

AN INVESTIGATION has been launched after a man died after suffering a severe head injury in an East Lothian town.

Christopher Marr, 66, was discovered collapsed on a street in North Berwick yesterday morning. Police said last night they were treating his death as “unexplained” but did not believe it was suspicious.

The alarm was raised after Mr Marr was found on Bank Street, on the corner of Westgate, at around 7:45am.

An ambulance was called and Mr Marr was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary where he later died. Lothian and Borders Police cordoned off a small area of the street,

The police have not released further details of the circumstances of the man’s death, although they did say he had suffered a “severe” blow to the head.

A police spokesman said last night: “Police are currently treating his death as unexplained, and inquiries are ongoing in order to establish how he came to suffer his injuries. Mr Marr was a well-known North Berwick resident.

His father, Fred Marr, established Sula Boat Trips in 1970, when he began running boat trips from North Berwick.

One local resident, who did not want to be named, said: “it’s such a terrible shame, He was such a well-known and much respected man in North Berwick.

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesman said they were contacted by police to an incident in North Berwick on Sunday morning.
