POLICE have confirmed that a body found in woodland in West Lothian is missing woman Heather McKay.

• Heather McKay had been missing since August 24

• ‘No suspicious circumstances’ - police

The 51-year-old mother-of-two, was found in an “inaccessible” part of Dechmont Woods, about 500 yards from the house she had been staying in, yesterday afternoon.

A post mortem has now been carried out.

Police do not believe the death is suspicious or an accident.

Ms McKay’s disappearance had sparked a frantic search and an emotional appeal on Friday, by her daughter and son, Andrea and Kevin Waddell.

Lothian and Borders Police said in a statement: “Lothian and Borders police can now confirm the identity of the body found in Dechmont, West Lothian as missing woman Heather McKay.

“The body of Ms McKay, 51, was found at around 1.30pm yesterday in dense woodland between the A89 just South of Dechmont and the M8 motorway at Livingston by Lothian and Borders Police search teams and Borders Search and Rescue.

“There are no suspicious circumstances and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”
