Police bike theft blitz

POLICE have launched a new blitz against bike thieves and vandals in south Edinburgh.

Officers from the safer neighbourhood team in the St Leonard’s policing area are taking part in Operation Divide.

The officers will work to identify graffiti “tags” and trace the culprits along with scouring second-hand dealers and cycle retailers for stolen bikes.

Acting Detective Sergeant Jonathan Wright said: “Bicycle theft and vandalism make up the ‘volume’ crimes experienced in the south of Edinburgh.

“We hope that by focusing on these areas we can identify offenders and make the area a more pleasant place to live.”
