Planning ‘flaws’ slammed in paper mill housing row

RESIDENTS have slammed a proposed housing development as evidence of serious flaws in the Capital’s planning system.

The concerns were raised after developer GL Hearn lodged a new application to build 89 houses on the site of the derelict Kinleith paper mill in Currie.

Residents said the firm was using a much older application, lodged in 1985, to push through an unpopular development that does not meet current planning laws. They added that a number of householders had not been notified.

Resident Archie Clark said: “Local people are disturbed that the city has chosen to notify only 11 at one end of the site.”

A council spokeswoman said: “Neighbourhood notification was carried out in line with Scottish Government
legislation.”

A GL Hearn spokeswoman said: “We are engaged with the council as part of the planning application process which will consider affordable housing.”
