Pickpocket warning for capital’s festival visitors

VISITORS to the Edinburgh Festivals are being warned to keep their personal possessions safe, after police caught two men allegedly attempting to pickpocket in the city centre yesterday.

The two men, aged 44 and 19, were operating at the Playfair steps at the Mound when they were identified by officers and detained.

Following further inquiry they were arrested and charged with four alleged attempted thefts at various locations in the city centre, including yesterday’s. They will appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court today.

The incident follows another that happened at the popular Speigeltent venue in George Street on Saturday night, where three men were arrested and charged in connection with the attempted theft of a handbag.
