AN elderly man trapped under a lorry after being knocked down at a junction in Kaimes has been freed by firefighters.

Crews used inflatable airbags to lift the articulated lorry off the man’s leg in Howdenhall Road yesterday afternoon.

Police said the man was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary with serious leg injuries following the accident, though his condition is not said to be life-threatening.

The road was closed for a police investigation, but reopened at 4.20pm.
