Other strange sporting bets

THE Grainger-McGowan gamble is only the latest strange sporting bet.

Scottish striker Bernie Slaven famously declared he would show his backside in the window of Middlesborough’s Binns department store if his former team achieved victory over Manchester United in 1998. They did and Slaven had to grin and bare all.

Closer to home, Hibs striker Garry O’Connor, pictured, vowed to walk naked down Princes Street if his team won in May’s Scottish Cup Final.

Amid the despair at Hibs’ crushing loss, O’Connor surely breathed a sigh of relief.
