Near miss as Gilroy almost caught red-handed

DAVID Gilroy may have been only moments from being caught red-handed with the body of Suzanne Pilley in the basement of their office building.

Prosecutors believe Gilroy killed the bookkeeper in the empty basement floor in Thistle Street and then concealed her body in a recess in the corridor.

An estate agent came in to ready the unoccupied space for a viewing at 9.20am on May 4, 2010, just 25 minutes after Ms Pilley was last seen alive.

Peter Fraser took client, Matthew Day, 41, to inspect it for the autism charity where he worked. The pair spent around 20 minutes inspecting the site from 9.30am, but Mr Day decided not to rent the premises because of a “buzzing” coming from a cupboard.

After seeing his client outside, Mr Fraser returned to check the cupboard.

Both men told the trial that they saw or heard nothing suspicious during their visit. But at around 9.45am, Gilroy, right, was spotted slipping out of a door beside the basement floor and into the garage, a move prosecutors suggested might have been to avoid the unexpected visitors.
