MSP flying high over launch of Capital flights to Istanbul

A LOTHIANS MSP has hailed the inaugural flight between Edinburgh and Istanbul today as a chance to “enhance business opportunities” and boost tourism to Scotland.

Edinburgh Western MSP Colin Keir attended the first flight, run by Turkish Airlines four times a week.

Mr Keir, whose constituency includes Edinburgh Airport, said: “This is a truly historic event – two inspiring cities and cultures are being connected today. The new route is great news for Edinburgh – what the capital needs is more direct flights to European and worldwide destinations.

“Edinburgh as a destination has real potential for growth and investment evidenced by Turkish Airline’s decision to fly to the Capital. Istanbul is not only a fantastic holiday resort – it’s a connecting hub to a wide range of worldwide destinations.

“If Air Passenger Duty was more competitive and devolved to Holyrood we could be seeing a lot more airlines choosing to invest in Scotland.”
