Miners’ club under review after complaints

An East Lothian miners’ club has been put under review by licensing chiefs following complaints over its management.

Macmerry Miners Club has been given a written warning from the Licensing Board after Lothian and Borders Police compiled a list of complaints.

It is believed to be the first time a club in East Lothian has been reviewed.

Three members of the club’s management committee – Isobel Redpath, Ruth Nisbet and Robert Nisbet – attended a meeting of East Lothian Council’s Licensing Board to respond to concerns in a report by the police.

Issues including the number of guests being signed in by members, allegations of antisocial behaviour and excessive noise were raised.

Representing the management, solicitor John Brent said the police had failed to provide evidence of antisocial behaviour since May 2011.
