Midlothian makes light of Queen’s Diamond Jubilee

BEACONS will light up the Midlothian sky as part of this year’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

Soutra and the Midlothian Snowsports Centre at Hillend will be bathed in light between 10pm and 10.30pm on June 4.

Other events in the county to mark the occasion will include a service at St Nicholas Buccleuch Church, a party at Vogrie Country Park and The Big Jubilee Lunch on June 3.

Lord Lieutenant of Midlothian Patrick Prenter said the events, to mark 60 years of the Queen’s reign, were a chance for local residents to join in the spirit of neighbourliness, friendship and fun within the community.

He said: “Last year the royal wedding captivated people across the UK. The Diamond Jubilee looks set to be a relaxing and enjoyable weekend given the scale and number of events that are happening in all parts of the UK.”

Residents who wish to hold street parties are also urged to contact the council for a licence.
