Man killed by freight train

A MAN has been killed after being struck by a freight train near Haymarket Station.

Emergency services rushed to the incident but the man, who has not yet been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The fatality occurred at 5.51am yesterday and involved a train travelling from Millerhill Yard on the outskirts of Edinburgh to Cardenden in Fife.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: “The incident is currently being treated as non-suspicious. A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.”
