Man is jailed for ‘vicious’ assault on brother at party

A MAN who attacked his own brother when they fell out after a party has been jailed for a year.

Daniel Fraser, 23, pleaded guilty at Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday to assaulting his brother, Billy, to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement in Sandport Way in Leith on May 24.

Fiscal depute, Karen Rollo, said the brothers had been at a party in a flat at the address, but about 1.30am they began arguing in the common stair.

Daniel punched his brother, knocking him to the ground, and then kicked him on the head. Witnesses contacted the police when they saw wounds on Billy’s head and face.

Defence solicitor Robbie Burnett said the family had been “angry” about the assault, but had now forgiven Daniel.

Jailing him, Sheriff James Scott said: “This was a vicious assault on your own brother and you have a previous conviction for assault to severe injury in 2010.”
