A MAN has been arrested and charged with an alleged driving offence in connection with the death of a cyclist nearly 14 months ago.

Andrew McNicoll was killed on Lanark Road, one of the main thoroughfares leading into the city, on the morning of January 6 last year.

Police today said that a 53-year-old man had been charged over the incident and was due to appear in court at a later date.

Mr McNicoll was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, but later died of his injuries.

His family launched a campaign to make conditions safer for cyclists in the Capital to ensure his death was “not in vain.”

His stepmother Lynn McNicoll previously said that her family was seeking to raise money for the campaign to ensure that something positive could result from his death.
