Knifeman in line for long jail sentence

A THUG who stabbed a man and tried to murder his twin brother has been warned to expect a lengthy prison
sentence.

Derek Brown, 30, was convicted at the High Court in Edinburgh of seriously assaulting Stephen Gorman and trying to murder David Gorman.

Brown, a prisoner of HMP Edinburgh, was found guilty of serious assault and attempted murder by a majority verdict yesterday.

During the trial, the court heard how Brown went on the rampage at Oakbank Road, East Calder, West Lothian, on January 2 this year.

He struck Stephen Gorman with a sharp knife and assaulted him to his severe injury. He then turned on twin brother David.

The court heard how he stabbed him on the body and left him permanently disfigured and that the blows caused David’s life to be put at risk.

Judge Lord Tyre deferred sentence on Brown for the court to obtain reports about his character.

Lord Tyre added: “It is extremely likely that I will impose a custodial sentence and it is likely to be a lengthy one.”

Brown will be sentenced on September 20 at the High Court in Glasgow.
