Hero soldier’s trek thanks

AN injured soldier has visited the Lothians as part of his charity fundraising trek across the UK.

Phil Packer, who served in the forces for 17 years, retired in March 2010 after sustaining spinal cord damage while on duty.

He has since been raising cash for his charity, the British Inspiration Trust (BRIT).

Mr Packer, 39, stopped off at Linlithgow Burgh Halls as part of his efforts to walk 2012 miles in 2012.

He said: “Throughout the walk I was able to spend time talking to young people and listen to their personal journeys, the difficulties they face and also their aspirations.

“It was a privilege to listen and it was a sobering experience to walk in the beauty of Linlithgow, but listen to the plight of the young homeless teenagers from the Open Door Charity.

“Thank you to the community of Linlithgow and West Lothian for your warmth, generosity, hospitality and an unforgettable day.”
