Hamilton’s is cream of the crop

ALTHOUGH July hasn’t seen much sun so far, there is no reason not to enjoy ice cream. And since it is National Ice Cream month, as declared by former American president Ronald Regan, it seems only polite to join in the celebrations.

Hamilton’s in Stockbridge is the perfect place to indulge as it offers homemade delights such as pistachio, honeycomb, vanilla, mango sorbet and even gin and tonic sorbet. And it’s just £2.95 for three scoops. See www.hamiltonsedinburgh.co.uk

• IF you agree there’s nothing better than home-baking, then the Piecebox Cafe is just the place.

Chef Kirsty and owner Wendy use fresh, locally sourced produce every day to create a delightful menu featuring pancakes, French toast with bacon and maple syrup, and full Scottish breakfasts to soups, sandwiches and salads. And there’s a garden area too. The cafe, in Polwarth Crescent, is open Mon-Fri, from 8.30am-5pm, Sat 9am-5pm, and Sun 9.30am-5pm.
