Guarantee praised for career boost

Nine young people have been given a career boost after securing their futures through the city council’s Edinburgh Guarantee scheme.

School leavers started internships at Standard Life last March on six-month contracts, with three having since been successful in applying for full-time roles.

Two others have been given contract extensions, two are on their way to university and the final two are in the process of deciding their next steps.

Sue Bruce, chief executive of the city council, said: “This truly is great news and the kind of result we’ve been aiming for. The Edinburgh Guarantee is all about providing options for young people which may not have been available to them in the past.”

Standard Life also announced that it would be taking on an additional ten interns through the scheme, at the end of this month.
