Group cycles through pain to raise £10k
A GROUP of cyclists who met at a Capital-based bike club have completed a 1070-mile charity ride around Scotland.
The 11 cyclists, who knew each other through Hervelo Cycling Club, set off from Holyrood car park on July 7 on a 15-day expedition to raise £10,000 for Marie Curie and Edinburgh-based children’s cancer charity CCLASP.
Along the way, the team suffered snapped gear cables, punctures, migraines, gastroenteritis and painful joints.
One of the riders, Laura Cave, said: “When the going got tough I put my head down and thought of my nephew Alex who died aged nine, and my dad who is living with leukaemia.
“My legs hurt but I knew it did not compare to the emotional pain of losing someone or of having to wake each day not knowing what you may be facing.
“I came up with the idea over nine months ago and have been really lucky to ride with such amazing guys.
“None of us are professional cyclists, we just like our bikes, and it’s testament to them that we have so far raised over £7000 through their hard work.”
