Grant helps youth club get out and about

A “FLOATING” youth club in Wester Hailes has been handed almost £42,000 from a fund made up of cash taken from unused bank accounts.

The club takes around 100 members, mainly from black and other ethnic minority backgrounds, on activities such as canoeing, kayaking, raft building, barging and mountain
biking.

In total, £469,000 which lay dormant for at least 15 years will be shared among 12 projects for people aged eight to 24 across Scotland.

Jackie Killeen, Big
Lottery Fund Scotland director, said: “I am delighted to see that the awards will support many young people to become healthier and more active from an early age. But more than that, these activities will also provide young people with important life skills.”
