Grand Parade cut short

THE Royal Highland Show found itself at the mercy of the weather yesterday, after thunder, lightning and a tropical downpour struck.

The Ingliston event was hit by the downpour at around 2.30pm.

Sadly the storm struck just as the Grand Parade of award-winning animals was taking place.

A show spokeswoman said: “The horses were parading when the rain started, and the cattle were meant to come next, but there was thunder and lightning, which animals don’t respond well to, so we had to cut it short.

“One or two cars got stuck in the mud in the car park. Luckily we have lots of tractors on hand, so they were sent over to pull out anyone having trouble.

“We have all the sucker equipment out tonight and we’re drying things off as much as possible.”
