‘God particle’ prof booked

THE Capital professor who put his name to the so-called “God particle” is to take part in an event at the Edinburgh International Book Festival next month.

Prof Peter Higgs will appear alongside Oxford University physicist Frank Close for the first time in public since the breakthrough discovery at the Large Hadron Collider in Switzerland last week.

Close will discuss his latest book, The Infinity Puzzle, chronicling the events that led to the experiment.

Higgs, professor emeritus at Edinburgh University, first identified the concept of the Higgs boson in the 1960s.
