Gifted chefs to showcase Scottish fare at student-led food festival

A RANGE of talented chefs is set to take part in a student-led food festival run by Jewel & Esk College and Queen Margaret University.

Tony Borthwick from the Plumed Horse will kick off FEAST 2012, followed by demonstrations from Neil Forbes from Café St Honoré, Stuart Muir from the Forth Floor, Harvey Nichols, former BBC Masterchef champion Derek Johnstone from Chez Roux, Greywalls, and John Paul from the Macdonald Marine Hotel in North Berwick.

The event, which will take place at Jewel & Esk College on April 28 from 10am to 4pm, will showcase all that is good about Scotland’s food and drink.

Festival visitors will be able to sample quality dishes which represent the “regions of Scotland”, including Perthshire crofters’ pie with beef and haggis, wild mushroom and pearl barley stew from Argyll, lentil and wild garlic soup from North East Scotland, and Selkirk Bannock bread and butter pudding from the Borders.

Ron McGilp, curriculum development manager at Jewel & Esk College, said: “FEAST is a great platform to showcase some of the most gifted chefs in Scotland and the audience is going to love hearing from the brilliant individuals who are contributing in such a significant way to Scotland’s growing reputation for culinary excellence.”
