Fringe ‘has got too big’

COMEDIAN Richard Herring has warned that the Fringe has grown too large and that the bubble may be set to burst.

Writing on his blog, he blamed a combination of the Olympics, the economy and rising prices for the disappointing ticket sales being experienced by many performers.

Yesterday the Evening News reported that many venues had had a disappointing first week.

Herring wrote: “The Fringe has got too big and there are too many comedians. It’s open to the same market forces as the rest of life and it can’t expand indefinitely.”
