Former SAS Colonel had just £12.97 in bank when he died

A FORMER chief prison inspector who led an SAS raid on the Iranian embassy siege has left an estate worth almost £300,000 in his will – but had just £12.97 in the bank when he died.

Colonel Clive Fairweather was born in Edinburgh and spent 34 years in the army before he died aged 68 in October last year at the Western General Hospital.

He completed three tours with the SAS and was security adviser to the Iranian and Jordanian Royal Households in 1970/71.

Fairweather was second-in-command of 22 SAS at the Iranian embassy siege in London in 1980.

His home in North Berwick, East Lothian, made up the bulk of his estate, being valued at £290,000.

First Minister Alex Salmond, said: “He brought to the job a unique combination of humanity and 
common sense.”
