Fake table claim axed

A JUDGE has rejected a legal bid by an auction house to recover money from a seller after a table sold for £15,000 turned out to be a fake.

A JUDGE has rejected a legal bid by an auction house to recover money from a seller after a table sold for £15,000 turned out to be a fake.

Lyon & Turnbull, based in Broughton Place, wanted a contract with seller Barry Sabine, from Devon, set aside and repayment of £13,666, over a table sold in September 2008.

The buyer later returned the “George IV table” and was refunded as it was not genuine.

But Lord Brodie yesterday ruled at the Court of Session in Edinburgh that Lyon & Turnbull “has failed to prove what it set out to”.
