Event sheds light on life inside Syria

A FORTNIGHT of free events celebrating Syria’s culture, history and politics has been launched in the city by natives of the beleaguered nation.

Hosted at an Edinburgh University venue in George Square, the showcase – dubbed Syria: Home of Heroes – is designed to help people peer behind the headlines and discover more about the country.

A live link-up with activists in Syria will give audiences a first-hand account of what the ordinary population endures.

Marwa Mouazen, co-organiser of the programme, said: “As Syrians living in Scotland, me and my co-organisers wanted to engage the public about Syrian culture, history and politics.

“Given the terrible situation in our country we are seeing on the TV every day, the events we have organised gives people an opportunity to experience, hear about and ask questions about Syria.”
