Euro football star banned from the bar

FOOTBALL legend John Clark has been banned from managing pubs following a series of “incidents of concern” at the East Lothian premises he ran.

Clark – who scored for Dundee United against IFK Gothenburg in the 1987 UEFA Cup final – is barred from managing any hostelry for the next six months.

Serving early morning alcohol to football supporters was among the 16 reported incidents said to have taken place at the Auld Brig Tavern, in Musselburgh.

East Lothian Licensing Board was forced to suspend the licence of the Belhaven-owned pub for one week last month following concerns from police.

The reported incidents at the pub include serving alcohol to fans at 8am ahead of the Hibs v Aberdeen Scottish Cup semi-final at Hampden in April, and an alleged after-hours disturbance on February 20.

Clark, 47, failed to appear in front of the licensing board last week, where the board members agreed to ban him for six months.

Council leader Willie Innes said: “[In agreeing to surrender his licence] he [Clark] accepted that he was responsible for some of the incidents that took place.”
