AN architect has created plans for an urban information centre to be built at the gap site on Market Street.

AN architect has created plans for an urban information centre to be built at the gap site on Market Street.

Leslie Howson has submitted his proposal to the Edinburgh City Council for a hub where people can study the city’s architectural heritage, and view plans for major projects like the trams scheme.

The urban designer has visited a similar centre in Milan, Italy.

He has created 3D models for the building and said it was a critical move given the Capital’s Old and New towns were classed as a World Heritage Site. The proposed site is opposite the rear entrance to Waverley station.

Mr Howson said: “Information about proposed changes to the city of Edinburgh, in particular with regards to what I term ‘high impact developments’, is not in my opinion readily available.”
