EDINBURGH’S Christmas tree was going back to its roots in the city centre as the Capital’s festive season prepared to get under way.

The traditional Norwegian wood, donated by Bergen’s Hordaland Community Council, was being planted on The Mound yesterday, with the city set to come to life during the Christmas Dream Machine ceremony next Thursday.

A thrilling combination of performance and pyrotechnics will wow crowds before a Brazilian Samba band leads revellers to festivities in St Andrew Square.
