Drug checks yield results

POLICE carried out nearly 14,000 personal searches for drugs in the Lothians in the last year, with one in nine proving to be positive, figures show.

Officers searched 13,846 individuals between last April and March, with 1467 yielding a discovery of drugs.

In Edinburgh, of 7801 searches, 842 proved positive. In East Lothian and Midlothian, 2776 searches yielded 298 drug recoveries and in West Lothian 216 positive finds were made from 2184 checks.
