Driving down casualties on Capital roads

AN event aimed at reducing the number of road casualties in the Capital caused by accidents involving young drivers is to take place for the second year running.

In 2010, young drivers aged between 16 and 25 accounted for almost a quarter of road casualties in Edinburgh, and the Streets Ahead road safety partnership is determined to drive down the number affected.

Twenty high schools throughout the Edinburgh area have signed up for the event, which will include interactive workshops and driving and collision simulators.

A play will also highlight the dangers of over-confidence and inexperience for younger
drivers.

It is predicted that 2000 youngsters will take part in the free event, which runs from September 3-7.
